Corroded Burners or a Rusted Firebox
Rust on a Wolf outdoor grill runs from colour left by burner heat to metal with holes in it. Only the far end decides anything, and where it sits matters more than how much: a burner is a replaceable part, while the firebox is the steel box holding the burners, briquette trays and grates.

Fix it when…
- The firebox, hood and body are sound, with heat tint, weather staining or light surface rust at most: no holes, no flaking metal.
- The damage is on the burners: ports pitted, flaking or opened up, with solid steel around them.
- One or two burners are affected, not every one.

Replace it when…
- The firebox floor or walls have holes, flaking layers or soft patches, not just the burners.

Before you call
Tint, stain or rust-through?
- Wolf's care table says some of the stainless will discolour from burner heat. Colour alone is not damage.
- Once it is cold, take out the grates and briquette trays and inspect every burner and the firebox floor below.
- Press a suspect patch with a gloved thumb. Steel that flexes, flakes or shows a hole is past surface rust.

Putting the grill away for the wet months
- Empty and wipe the drip tray first. Wolf's guide wants it cleaned after each use, because of the grease-fire risk.
- Wipe the outside with a non-abrasive stainless cleaner on a soft cloth, along the grain. Wolf rules out steel wool.
- Check the burners for webs and insects before the cover goes on: Wolf warns that nests in burners can damage the grill as well as start a fire.

Does rust mean my Wolf grill has to be replaced?
Not on its own. Wolf expects some of the stainless to discolour from burner heat, and light surface rust or weather staining changes how the steel looks, not whether the grill works. Will Wolf's warranty pay for rust on an outdoor grill?
Wolf's limited lifetime warranty on stainless components covers defects in materials or workmanship, not surface corrosion, discolouration, weather staining or minor surface rust. Owners using independent service must get warranty parts from Wolf directly, and Wolf will not refund parts bought elsewhere, so check the installation date before ordering anything.
Can I fit a new burner in my Wolf grill myself?
Wolf's safety instructions call it critical that every burner goes in with its orifice inside the burner's air shutter; fitted wrongly, gas can leak outside the burner and start a fire. That puts a burner replacement in the visit rather than on a weekend list, and the $89 visit is credited against the repair.
